Mrs. Mary A. Green, 83, of DeWitt, Iowa, died early Wednesday afternoon, July 11, 2012 at Genesis Medical Center-DeWitt.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. Sunday, July 15, 2012 with a vigil service at 6:00 p.m. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 16, 2012 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. The Reverend Father Paul Connolly will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Grand Mound. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to the family or Iowa Comprehensive Epilepsy Program.
Pallbearers will be Brian Green, Chris Green, Jamie Green, Brigham Green, Kyle Alkire and Josh Daniel. Honorary pallbearers will be Amy Lippens, Tia Green, Heather Daniel, Chelsey Green, Danielle Redman, Arianna Green and Jacob Green.
Mary Agnes Green was born September 16, 1928 at rural Clinton, Iowa, to Ben and Veronica (Fier) Determan and was a graduate of Mount Saint Clare High School in Clinton. On September 22, 1949, she was united in marriage to Ralph V. Green in Clinton. The couple farmed at rural DeWitt, where Mary was a homemaker, raising their eight children. Ralph preceded her in death on August 14, 1996.
She was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, and the Altar and Rosary Society. Mary enjoyed playing cards and belonged to various card clubs. She also enjoyed baking and spending time with her family. She would always light up when her grandchildren and great-grandchildren entered the room.
Surviving are children, Chuck (Barb) Green of DeWitt, Gary (Becky) Green of Hartland, Wisconsin, Doug (Sharon) Green of Naples, Florida, Pat (Cindy) Green of Grand Mound, Iowa, Mary Lou (Ron) Rayls of Davenport, Iowa, Ed Green of DeWitt, Sue (Marc) Alkire of Holly Springs, North Carolina, Robert “Bob” (Lynn) Green of Papillion, Nebraska; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Jerrie Krogman of Clinton and Betty Porth of DeWitt; a brother, Ben Determan of Iron Mountain, Michigan; numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death in addition to her husband, Ralph, were a son, Ralph, Jr., a grandson, Aaron Green, her parents and her in-laws.
